These are the "newer" motorcycles in our collection. Some you still might call classic. It's always a question of where classic ends and new begins. The motorcycles below we own, or have owned — occasionally trading in or trading up to another machine. Our son also rides, and he too has traded up to bigger bikes. We hope you enjoy the pictures on these pages and the stories they tell.
1980 Honda CY 50. This is the successor to the Honda DAX. It has an air-cooled single cylinder 50cc motor, which we replaced with a 75cc motor. It is one of those machines that have cult status..
1990 Honda QR 50 + Sidecar. This was Brandon's first motorcycle. At 2-1/2 in this photo, he can ride it (with a little help). Kids don't need to balance the bike with a sidecar — just give it gas! At age 5, we took the side car off to teach him to ride motocross. Now at 10 he has twice the bike with a Honda 100.
Honda CRF 100 F. This is Brandon's current motorcycle — inherited from mama. We like our Honda dirt bikes, as they are reliable, lightweight and easy to handle. It has a four-stroke engine, and smooth five-speed transmission.
1975 Condor A350. This is an ex-Swiss military Condor A350 motorcycle. Here's the story with the Condor motorcycle: it is basically a Ducati machine. Apparently, the Swiss Army would only buy Swiss machines and Condor was the only Swiss motorcycle manufacturer. They got Ducati to build the motor for them and essentially re-badged the bikes as Condors.
1987 Harley Davidson Heritage Softail Classic. This Harley is a great long-distance cruising bike. We took ours over 7,000 kilometers from Germany to the south of Spain. Click on the image for more, including a few photos from that interesting journey.
1995 Ducati 900 SuperSport. This is Lisa's prized possession, a Ducati 900 with Termignoni pipes — great sound. After making her motorcycle license in 1995, this is the first bike she bought. Pictured here with a full fairing, it was originally a CR version.
1989 Yamaha FZR 1000, as clean as the day it was new. It is a great looking, fast motorcycle. Click on the image for more.
1995 Jawa 350 TS with Sidecar This is a touring bike from the Czech Republic. For us, it was a family fun bike. But we sold it — no room in the garage for 2 motorcycles with side cars.
1991 Hercules K-180 Bundeswehr. We bought this Enduro motorcycle directly from the German Bundeswehr. You don't see the K-180 versions so often. They mostly used the smaller K-125 models. It has the single cylinder 2-stroke Sachs motor.
1982 Maico 490 Motocross. Have you ever seen a cleaner dirt bike, especially one that is over 20 years old? We can almost call this Maico a classic. Click on the image for more.
2008 Honda 450X. This is the latest model motorcycle we own — a Honda 450 X. Honda's are great dirt bikes, and this one wins as a dual sport version. It has the front headlight, and with a few other modifications it can be street legal. It's a nice upgrade from the old Maico.
2003 Tornado Scooter. If it's got a motor, we have it! This is a 42 cc Tornado Scooter. It runs up to 35 mph. There is also a removable seat for it, but it's more fun just to stand and give it gas.
Pocket Bikes. The latest craze — starting back in 2004 — were pocket bikes, and we had one of each kind: the standard pocket bike with a half-fairing, a street-legal version with lights, which was taller, and a pocket Vespa-style scooter. The only one we kept was the mini Vespa. It just has a great look.
